This is a very well written book. I wanted to explore as many card games as possible. 150 is not too bad to get started.I like how the book is broken up into sections based on the number of players for each game. There is also an extra tips and tricks section. The structure is the same and you really get used to it. First, a succinct description of the game and all the rules. Then the author moves to a frozen-up game situation and tell the possible next moves. This helps with understanding the rules better.I am still exploring, going at my own pace since I am not in a big rush. So take what I said with a grain of salt. It's what I have seen so far. Also I have never owned any book of this kind (i.e., books classifying cards games) before. So I can't compare to any other out there.With all that said, this book is a winner for me.
This is the official game night weekend book in our house. We are avid card players. This is a great reference and there are several games to play both by player level and difficulty level. I will say though, sometimes it is difficul to figure out how to play a game based on linear directions alone. I do wish there were pictures or more examples in the book as some of the more complex games are difficult to understand by reading alone. This has made us shy away from a few games in the book because they are too complicated to understand. All that said, this book is our go-to for our weekend family game nights and we always find something to play and we have a few favorites we play weekly.
It is hard to understand the explanations of the games. It is a good resource to find out what kind of games are out there. But when it comes to actual games, I had to google and read or watch their explanations instead of the book. Even after I understood the methods through website, the way things are explained in this book is not easy to understand.
Good book, very clean format and illustrations, but as someone who doesn't know almost any card games and bought this book to learn them, it isn't too great. It uses a bunch of terminologies that if you're not familiar with card terminology you're gonna be spending time in the back of the book reading on what each term means, which is tedious.
Gave this to my dad for Christmas. He really liked it. There are lots of games in there and it's relatively straightforward to read. However, it was originally published in the UK, so some classic American games (such as Spades) were not included.
I can never remember the rules to card games. Bought this as a father's day gift for my dad for a fishing trip and we played a variety of the games, though mostly stuck to the ones the old guys like.Fun variations on single person games and the 'tricks' would likely be fun for much of the book's target demo. Not much of a card trick enthusiast at this stage, but 10 year old me would've loved them. Game variety is decent, though I was hoping for a few more that I wasn't familiar with.Organized with nice graphics and pretty decent game instructions. All and all, nice to have on the shelf when things get stale.
Love the illustrations that go with the written text. So many card games I have never heard of, should provide hours of fun in the RV.
Grandson was introduced to card games and now plays them more than video games. Plus he needs another player so granny, mom, and dad play with him. Family face to face time!!!! Wonderful!!!
