Witches are portrayed basically as nasty and disgusting creatures, but they are never without a sense of humor. Their lives as portrayed in The Witch's Handbook are almost as inviting (but not as detailed) as those of the gnomes in Huygen's book (Abrams, 1977). Used to read this book at a friend's house when I was a child. Couldn't believe I actually found it! And for so cheap!!!So much fun! Planning on having little babies myself in the next couple years, love to acquire the books that I enjoyed so much when I was young!I hope to pass on the enjoyment!!
This is a great children's book with really funny color and b/w illustrations. The illustrations are throughout the whole book which is always a plus. They have fun things in here like "useful herbs", "knitting patterns" for a skull cap, "halloween fun", "picking furniture". It's all really cute and not meant to be taken seriously. The witches are all portrayed as ugly old hags but that goes along with the fun.
Had I know of this book when it was first published, I would have put it on either a Christmas wishlist or a birthday wishlist. And 30 years ago it would have tickled me pink - but I love it now, in my late 40's - there is wonderful humor in both the text and the illustrations.A must for any lover of Halloween or things dark, witchy, and fun.

When I was younger I was fascinated by witches and let's be honest, I still am! This book is funny and witty with easy to follow recipes and absolutely sharable for all ages.
