This is an excellent short introduction, completely painless, just a delight. To say that the author displays vast erudition in a modest way is an understatement -- I was in awe at how much Kerr was able to work into this tight space. It is sketchy, but sketchy like a Blue Guide to Paris -- these are the big questions, this is where to look, and so on. Most of it is structured around the Summa T., and one could do worse than have it nearby if one is going to tackle the Summa. The last chapter is sort of weird -- short bits of how Aquinas influenced later work -- it ranges from the debate over the status of the peoples of the new world to the very obscure Thomists of the early 19th century (this looks like undigested material in prep for his book on 20th century catholic theologians). There's no mention of Richard Hooker or the later fate of the natural law tradition. But I didn't really mind, given the quality of the rest of the text. In terms of "beginner's guides" I would give this to a real beginner, the next level up would be Feser or Kenny (my personal favourite from long ago), and then maybe Brian Davies, and the older but still valuable Copleston, Gilson, etc.

This is exactly what it says it is. The book is small, looks quite nice, and is a short read. It deals with Aquinas' philosophy as much as his life, and does a good job of condensing it, though of course it does not get into any of his intricate arguments. Not a substitute for reading Aquinas by any stretch, but it was never intended to be. Instead, it's a great book to look through before reading his actual works.

A very Good introduction to Thomas Aquinas and his philosophy Per summa theologica. For example the book discusses The evolution of property rights from the virtue of justice.

Great details of the life of an historical influence on the battle to change the world veiw on religion. Highly recommended for reading.

I have not yet read the book, but I wanted to get some information on this saint in a format that would be easy to read and absorb. I am very pleased that I could find a book such as this for my library.

By recipes I was expecting ingredients like vegetable glycerin (like the kind of stuff in the Deva Curls line), not honey and banana etc. The recipes are inconvenient (most not stuff you can make in advance and keep in a bottle) and likely to draw bugs into your bedroom and bathroom while you sleep. Some even involve purchased conditioner as an ingredient. I thought this was part of the "Curly Girl" line of books. It is nothing like those. You can read the whole thing in about 10 minutes and I'm sorry to say none of the recipes seemed appealing.

So first of all, I have returned this for a refund. I hope to save you money as well. This is not a book...it's barely even a booklet!. It is hardly even 15 pages. Seriously? Secondly, it's not written by the Curly Girl authors. The front cover appears to us like it's the same, but it's not, at all. Thankfully I got my thirteen dollars back. Don't let them take your money, too. You can easily get all of the recipes in this booklet on any curly girl website.

This book is only fifteen pages long and that includes the back and front cover pages. Not worth it for over $10.00. I expected this book was going to give me more information regarding what shampoos, conditioners, etc. to use for specific hair types. It is only homemade recipes to use for curly hair using fruits and vegetables. Not happy with it at all!

Definitely would recommend this book! Curlygirls will love it & we save 💰 when we make our own products. SO much fun!

I have always worn my hair straight and decided to let my hair do what it wanted (well with some help). This is a great book with some easy tricks to get the most from your curls.

I Love every recipe and they all have easy instructions. This is a perfect book for learning And for young girls learning.

It was not what i expected. Did use one of the homemade recipes. If looking for DYI recipes for curly hair this would be a good book.

I have read every book Mr. Solomon has written, and many of his magazine articles as well. Far and Away, Mr. Solomon's latest book, maintains that exceptionally high standard of prose I encountered in his previous writings. I have never read non-fiction works with such a high caliber of detail; detail that paints a picture in front of you so beautifully articulated that you feel you are by Mr. Solomon's side and see what he sees and experiences with your own eyes. His intimate knowledge and description of each location, as well as that of the people with whom he shares his experiences, are stunning. His characters, fully drawn and faceted, are all believable. The stories of his adventures, regardless of location, are fascinating and it becomes, at times, impossible to put the book down. Twice I found dinner had been forgotten.

He has reported from a wide variety of places around the world, and has a unique way of trying to understand different situations and cultures. His last adventure as a scuba diver in Australia and being lost from his boat for a significant time was particularly interesting and scary. I have been in almost as precarious a a situation as a diver. He explained some of the thoughts and fears that go through your mind in that isolated situation very well.

in very good condition. bought it used for $4, but new price is $30. great deal. very interesting book. i'm a world traveler, so i can appreciate his stories. stories about his travels are easy to read and interesting.

interesting observations and experiences. superb writer. insights and historical perspective presented could serve as a primer for foreign affairs study. Chapter on Myanmar especially interesting in this regard. A good accompaniment to the Foreign Policy Association Great Decisions discussion presentation on this topic.

An absolutely encyclopedic collection of high-brow travel literature spanning the past twenty five years. As if you are travelling in Andrew's pocket, listening to the nuances of travel with a visionary. He provides depth of knowledge of the arts and politics in Russia, China, Taiwan and South Africa during periods of profound change. The section on Libya is extraordinary. The passage set in Senegal evocative. The introduction clues you that this is not a casual read, but a treatise on the power of travel to inform in fairly obscure locals before they were opened to more frequent travel. I highly recommend this book for those who think they are world travellers. You will be richer for the read.

Excellent stories from diverse and often uncomfortable first hand experience. Less politically projective than I would have thought based with author's interview with Fareed Zakaria on CNN's GPS program recently|. Still a nice piece.

Beautiful writing, but often too much for a casual reader.

Great read! Can be read sequencialy or chapter by chapter. I also bought it for my 13 year old grandson who's about to embark on his first real trip. I hope it will inspire him to be a good traveler and a good observer.

This book is a must-read for anyone traveling to Fiji. I find the Moon guides a little more inclusive and not just catering to the budget or backpack crowd.After using this guide to find restaurants and places of interest, I can say that it saved me days of research. Instead, I just choose from the book and found the descriptions to be bang-on.I would suggest reading it fully before you plan your trip so that you know what areas you want to visit. My wife and I just returned from 16 days in Fiji, and this book was very useful. The author has clearly done his homework, and his recommendations and opinions were pretty much on the mark, at least in the three areas we visited - the Northern Yasawas, Vanua Levu, and Taveuni. The Moon book was also much more current than the latest Lonely Planet guide (2009) that we also had.The only issue we had was with the maps on the Kindle edition. These were impossible to view, as they were too small and could not be resized or zoomed. I don't know if this is the fault of the publisher or of the Kindle Touch software. For this reason I would recommend the paperback version.

We travelled to Fiji (winter 2008-2009, but summer there) and we are so happy that we studied this book before we went. We travelled on the Yasawa Flyer (ferry) up the chain of islands and started our stay near the Blue Lagoon. The information about the differnt island resorts was invaluable and helped us make very good decisions on where to stay. We stayed at three different resorts, sort of back pack style and Coral View was the best with Bounty a close second. Fiji is a beautiful country with beautiful people and reading this book before we went made our trip that much better. I bought this book as a guide before my honeymoon. I had already looked around a couple of eco-tourism web sites and booked a couple of hotels; in one case, I changed my mind because of this book and ended up canceling a booking. It's a well-organized guide with astonishing clarity and frankness. Some off-hand tips include who to talk to (first names) at travel agencies/resorts/etc. for tips and deals, what times of day and/or days of the week you should avoid certain activities, what environment to expect at a hotel or resort (Partying backpackers? Couples only? Family-oriented? Rich lazies?), which buses leave early/late or stay overnight, how to deal with hagglers, general Fijian pronunciation tips and cultural guidelines (including an apparently conservative dress code in the villages that I would have regretted not knowing beforehand), where and how women will feel safe, and of course, which restaurants and accommodations offer the best deals. You're probably also well-off to visit [...] for first-hand travel tips, but the Moon guide book is a great buy.

Excellent book on Fuji we first heard about in a podcast with the author and Rick Steeves. Gives great overviews with day trips and the like and then goes into great detail, my prefers layout for any book like this.

Nice book. Wishing for more illustrations and pictures.

I have an earlier edition, and this offers updates and some new pictures. It's an excellent guide to Fiji.

This is a one-day read - maybe two. It's not worth $14. It is written for accessibility, which I am taking to mean a 6th-grade level.It's basically a Q&A book supposedly drawing 90% upon St. Thomas Aquinas, but there are few references to Aquinas's works. Kreeft has some silly questions in the book. I suspect these questions came from the undergraduate course he teaches on Angels and Demons.If you're looking for a higher-level, more intellectual read, get Angels and Demons: A Catholic Introduction, by Serge-Thomas Bonino OP. It's available on Amazon. It's a far denser read, but it is not disjointed like Kreeft's book.I was disappointed by the text as it is too simplistic. But some may prefer simple.

The market is flooded with books on angels, many whimsical and speculative, others recounting meetings between angels and humans, and some even claiming to tell you how to talk to your angel. We have angel dictionaries and angel encyclopedia, books filled with great paintings, and others with personal angel art. This book is for those who want to ponder what Scripture tells us about angels, and what the great theologian, Thomas Aquinas, had to say about God's messengers as well. For those of us interested in the real root of the fascination, this is a treasure trove. Anyone can dream dreams of angels; anyone can make up stories about them. Anyone can draw his or her ideal winged guardian. But pondering the actual biblical passages that involve angels can be very surprising and inspiring, as this is where the real beginning of our understanding of angels resides. Like all Peter Kreeft's many books, this one is very readable. It's clear, concise, and will lead inevitably to the Bible itself. After all, that is where we first meet our angels, in the pages of the Old and New Testaments; and it may surprise readers to discover how much the Bible actually tells us about these mysterious and powerful creatures. I should add here that I find Thomas Aquinas endlessly fascinating, but difficult. And after reading Peter Kreeft's book, it was much easier for me to approach The Summa Theologica for the many intricate passages on angels bad and good. Peter Kreeft is a great teacher. This book captivates and instructs.

While I am not Catholic, I am researching every source for different perspectives on the subject. This book is quite readable with excellent information. I keep quoting different things from it when making points! The excellent bibliography has lead me to some other gems I would not have considered as part of my research. I usually get most books from the library, but ended up purchasing this one.

Anyone who has read any of Peter Kreeft's books knows that he does not write to the arrogant academic elite but to the common adult (including "young adults"). In particular, the audience of this book is to Catholics, old or young, who wish to learn more about angels. More broadly, he writes to all Christians (and even Jews and Muslims); there are a couple of places where he explains doctrines that non-Catholics might be confused about.The book is in question and answer style, 100 questions divided into four sections. The first section is "Questions about Our Fascination with Angels" (4 questions), the second is "Questions about How We Know Anything about Angels" (13 questions), the third section is "Questions about the Nature of Angels" (66 questions), and the fourth section is "Questions about Demons" (17 questions). There are also three appendices: "A Short Course in Angelistic Philosophy," "A Snakebite Letter: Sex and the Media" (Kreeft's "Snakebite Letters" are his updated version of C.S. Lewis' "Screwtape Letters"), "What the New Catechism of the Catholic Church Says about Angels," and "Angels and Demons in the Bible."My only complaint is that he usually does not cite his sources (eg. Bible, Summa Theologica, etc.) As a student, I would have liked have been able to follow up on what he says.In short, as with most of Kreeft's works, he inspires a certain excitement for Christ and His Church.

Being a firm believer in angels & demons I was keen to read this book to get a stronger theological basis to support my beliefs. Kreeft's book delivered it perfectly.The book is based around a series of 100 questions that people have asked him about the existence of angels and demons. Some are sincere but some ridiculous (eg, Can angels become cars?) but the hilarity of some only adds to the enjoyment in reading the book. Kreeft has obviously studied wide and varied to arrive at his well constructed responses.A very good reference book that anyone looking to better understand the supernatural world of angels and demons should read.

Found this book at my local library. I started reading it on a Sunday afternoon and expected to get through maybe 10 pages. Well, I read it cover to cover. I found it to be so interesting that I could not put it down.The book is written in a Question/Answer format, which for this type of material was perfect. The answers are clear and concise and perfect in length. Each answer is complete, but doesn't go overboard in anyway. Short and to the point, leaving the reader comfortable with each answer, and in my case, 100% more informed. Sometimes authors can get too wrapped up in wordy answers. Not the case with Peter Kreeft. Each answer is understandable and perfect in length.I agree with other reviewers, today's culture and society has really skewed the facts about angels and what the bible has said about them. I wasn't looking for quotes from movies or ideas & fluff from fairy tales - I wanted real, factual answers and this book has them.I really liked Peter Kreeft's writing style and will be looking for more of his books in the future.
