I have read the translation by Mikaeel Ahmed Smith. There were confusing portions that seemed circular with no meaning. However, this is not for beginner students/periodic readers of Islamic theology. I would have probably enjoyed this more thoroughly if I had a stronger vocabulary and knew more about this topic.Also as a side note, I feel like many of the points that this book covers are geared towards full-time students of Islamic theology. Many of these points do not apply to the average reader.I have no complaints on the book overall, but the topics it teaches do not apply to me.I have given this book 3 stars due to the fact that I couldn't apply/understand many parts of the book, but there are some parts that I understood well and have attempted to apply it to my daily life. It is very beneficial to students. My review may have been higher if I was more well-versed on the subject.JazakAllahukhairan.

Used to read this book at a friend's house when I was a child. Couldn't believe I actually found it! And for so cheap!!!So much fun! Planning on having little babies myself in the next couple years, love to acquire the books that I enjoyed so much when I was young!I hope to pass on the enjoyment!!

This is a great children's book with really funny color and b/w illustrations. The illustrations are throughout the whole book which is always a plus. They have fun things in here like "useful herbs", "knitting patterns" for a skull cap, "halloween fun", "picking furniture". It's all really cute and not meant to be taken seriously. The witches are all portrayed as ugly old hags but that goes along with the fun.

Had I know of this book when it was first published, I would have put it on either a Christmas wishlist or a birthday wishlist. And 30 years ago it would have tickled me pink - but I love it now, in my late 40's - there is wonderful humor in both the text and the illustrations.A must for any lover of Halloween or things dark, witchy, and fun.

Buy a truckload of mushroom compost... and every bit of it has leached away in 6 months.David the Good has been there, done that, and found some solutions. And if you've been stymied by your Florida "garden" attempts before, give him a try! Grow the things that WANT to grow in Florida (it's okay to give up on celery. Really.), and plant them when they want to be planted (ignore what the seed packet says!).

If it weren't for this book I'd still be trying to grow the same crops I grew in Wisconsin here in Florida, and losing the battle in a big way. It never occurred to me to try different varieties or give up on some things altogether. Instead of putting my head down and going into another season like a charging bull - "I'm going to win this time!!" I've thrown in the towel on some things I love but I don't want to get like, two beefsteak tomatoes. I've taken a lot of his recommendations on varieties and substitutes and getting to try things I never would have had I continued to be stubborn. And I'm working a lot less and eating a lot more. That's the whole idea - which I forgot about when I was using a blowtorch, magnifying glass, tweezers, sniper, slingshot, etc. to kill green caterpillars on my cucumbers.

After years of struggling in NE Florida to grow vegetables I decided to buy this book. I'm so glad I did. I bought the seeds and plants that were recommended and I am looking forward to a bountiful harvest this year!! This guy knows his stuff and he knows Florida.

I should have read the 1 and 2 star reviews beforehand. A lot of this information is available for free - and essentially just says: "here go to the uf extension website for a month by month planting calendar!". A lot of the information from the book is on the uf extension website anyways besides the 'rare plants' and maybe specific varieties he talks about. I was kind of excited to watch the documentary he said was inspiring (Back To Eden) and tried watching that was more of a spiritual movie that talked about God than about gardening. Oh well. Don't waste your money. Just get advice from the r/garden subreddit, read up on the UF extension website, go to your local garden nursery - they are almost ALWAYS helpful and can offer advice and their experiences. I was hoping for a little bit more in depth knowledge than what I gathered from the UF extension in terms of pest control that demolishes some of my plants but it offered nothing. Two stars are for the interesting plants he talked about and motivating me to try planting ginger.

About the Author

Amy Shrodes and Doug Kuntz felt compelled to travel to Greece to help with the refugee crisis, each in their own unique way—Amy as a volunteer helping the arriving refugees and raising awareness back at home through a podcast, and Doug as a photojournalist, who spent five months in Greece, Turkey, France, Germany, and finally Norway, bringing the plight of the refugees to people around the globe. When they met Kunkush, they knew he was very special to someone and they wanted to do everything they could to reunite him with his family.   Sue Cornelison graduated with a BFA from Drake University and continued her studies at the International School of Studio Arts in Florence, Italy. Sue has worked as a full-time illustrator for over a decade. She wrote and illustrated The Twelve Days of Christmas in Iowa, as well as illustrated Sofia’s Dream, Down by the Bay, You’re Wearing That to School?!, and the American Girl Bitty Baby series. The "Lost and Found Cat" is a beautiful, and true story about a family who has to flee their home in the dangerous city of Mosul, Iraq. Leaving behind most of their belongings they refuse to leave behind their pet, Kunkush. The story depicts their journey as they are smuggled out of the country, into Turkey, across the Aegean Sea until they land on the shores of Greece. It is here that the family loses Kunkush. The rest of the story follows the efforts of ordinary people who cross paths with Kunkush and band together to reunite him with his family. The story is compelling, the illustrations are lush, both geographically and culturally correct. This is a heartwarming story in the midst of the many heartbreaking stories we hear on the news daily. While lovely for all ages it is particularly a sensitive introduction for children into the world of the refugee. The authors take a story, from far, far away, and make it relevant and appealing to families, children, cat lovers, world travelers, humanitarians, single moms. This story will captivate your heart.

Reading this book to my seven year old daughter was such an amazing experience for me - watching her emotions as she cycled through curiosity, concern, fear, and finally tearful relief at the happy ending. We both loved the real photos depicting Kunkush and his family at the end of the book, it made it that much more poignant for my daughter to see the characters "come to life". If you are looking for a profoundly affecting story to build a sense of empathy in your child, you have found it.

This is a true story. This family had to tragically leave their homeland because of the aftermath of the Iraq war and the fact that ISIS had moved in and was wreaking havoc against the citizens of Iraq. We can only imagine how terrifying it would be to have to leave our home and most of our belongings, to go to another place where we know no one, have no job, and do not speak the language. This family was truly desperate to have to leave, and so brave to actually make the trip they did with all the associated peril. We in the West may not have ever had to contemplate such a thing, but many of us certainly know what it's like to lose a beloved pet, to believe the pet is gone for good, and then to miraculously one day have it turn back up. This is a wonderful true story with a happy ending - at least for Kunkush and his family. A great true adventure story for children.

I have bought and given away 6 copies of this book already, and I hope to give more. This book is very sweet and tells a refugee story centered around a cat and a family that loves it. For me, buying copies of this book and giving them away is a great way to teach tolerance and help to educate kids about the refugee crisis.

This charming and important book has no age limit! It shows us the meaning of devotion, courage, and acceptance of what must be. The reader feels the family's urgent need to find safety in another country, feels the tension as they take along their beloved pet that they won't leave behind, and shares their grief when it disappears. The astonishing true events at the end challenge understanding. A remarkable tale. My grandsons wanted immediately to hear the story a second time!

This is the true story of a refugee family fleeing their country because of a war. Although the story mainly follows the cat, the story is very relatable for kids (a time when you felt scared, alone, got help from someone, etc). I have read this with my classroom of third graders and with my family. Everyone loved it! The kids keep asking to read it over again that I bought another 2 copies for the library! Everyone loves the real photos that are included on the last couple pages of the family and their cat, but (spoiler alert) the best part is the reunion in the end.

Purchased for my 6-yr old daughter who loves cats. I wanted her to learn about the struggles of others and I had hoped that her love of cats would help her identify with the family in the story. Worked great. Prompted questions and engaged her in events outside her worldview.

This book was recommended to me. I am an avid children's book reader. I tried it out with a group of 3rd graders. What would you know, but their weekly vocab word was "smuggler". Relevant to the times with refugees, and which child doesn't love cats. I will be reading it to 1st and 2nd grade next week. I will have a deep discussion with 5th grade, many students can relate to their parents being refugees, and students sharing their family story. So adorable, and powerful.

The book is a collection of stories that illustrate some of the underlying philosophy of the Tao in a down to earth practical way. Some have been around before but others were new to me. I've used them myself as illustrations to express a point of view. I've found the stories to be very helpful in my understanding of the Tao inn its application and enjoyable to read. Some times it's nice to get a break from reading the original translations of the Tao Te Ching and the equally difficult to understand commentaries that are out there.

Bought for an Asian Religions college class. I found the subject matter extremely interesting and enlightening. I'm not sure how well the contents of the book match up with others on the subject, but it was easy to read and informative.

Worth the read. It is actually very informative

Anytime I need a little pick me up I grab this book. I has to read it for a religon class (asian relig) I'm so glad it was required, it has a permanent place on my coffee table! Covers different situations that arise in life and gives enlightened advice through short stories!

Great little book. Worth buying to me.
