About the Author
Ben Passikoff started photographing old advertisements around his birth place of New York City when he joined the photography club in high school. His self-published bookThe Writing on the Wall was first launched at The New York Historical Society, in whose archives his photos now reside. He is the youngest contributor in the SocietyÂ’s 212 year history. Ben works as a freelance writer and filmmaker in New York City, New York.

I grew up in NY and remember all of the wall signs. This book is so interesting and well put together. Kudos to Mr. Passikoff!
This is the most phenomenal book about New York City! Ever!
Great book! Bought it as a gift for my hubby and he loved it!
There are signs of the past all around us if we would only notice and appreciate them, and The Writing On The Wall" beautifully illustrates this comforting truth. This book explores the many "ghost signs" painted right on buildings that advertised products and services throughout the neighborhoods of New York. Although most of these 19th and 20th century forms of advertisement are in fading condition due to time and the elements, Passikoff has managed to capture them for posterity, providing a curious history of the Big Apple's economic and social development. This book offers a wonderful tour of often forgotten art forms in New York City, many of which are at lest 90 or 100 years old!
....in crucial information! Would it have been difficult to tell us exactly WHERE these signs are located? I live in NYC and also adore these signs. There were many in the book I had yet to come across, and would have liked to see for myself...if the author had only seen fit to tell s where they are.
