If you are looking for a guide with a lot of photos, this is not for you. But if you want a guide that gives great tips on places to stay, eat, and see...this is that guide. Included is a lot of history of the area, especially the wine region, which I found interesting. There are nice maps of Niagara Falls, Ontario and the surrounding towns. There are suggested iteneraries for one, two, or three days trips. I found a lot of good money saving tips such as where to buy multi-attraction passes, and the fact that there are a lot of taxes added to restaurant bills (thats good information when you are expecting one price and its 25% higher due to the taxes!). I also appreciated that there were tips about attractions that were "overrated" so that I wont spend time or money on those places. We are going to visit this area in June and this is the book I intend to take, it has helped us make decisions on what to see and do during our time there.

We inadvertently purchased the "Niagara Region" Frommers guide for our trip to the Falls, and it opened up a wonderful new region to us.First, the book did a great job helping us 'navigate' the traditional Falls activities. Maid of the Mist, Caves of the Wind, etc. are all included and well-described. So this is a great tool for satisfying the kids. Also, and more important to adults, it includes the larger Niagara Peninsula outside the immediate Falls area. This wonderful region not far from Toronto reminded us of the Napa Valley or the South Fork of Long Island (aka the Hamptons). Like these regions, the Niagara Peninsula obviously benefits from serious investment from city dwellers visiting on weekends.Highlights include: some charming towns like Niagara-on-the-Lake; 84 (!) wineries in multiple appellations; great restaurants and Inns; bike paths, and water vistas; pick-your-own farms (peaches and strawberries are fabulous); interesting geological terrain helping viniculture; and other culture like the Shaw Festival. For the kids, the book showed which wine tours were kid-friendly, so served grape juice tastings alongside the adult wine tastings. While sitting on the terrace at the Peller Estates winery having an excellent, formal service lunch while overlooking the rows of vines, my partner said, "Wow, we could be in Napa right now...."

I thank myself for all the searching I did to find a book like this on amazon.com. This is probably the bestselling book devoted to Niagara Falls which is from a well-known travel guide series.272 pages is without contradiction enough to satisfy me. Even though this book mostly covers the Canada side, that's where most of the tourists go to, not just because of the Horseshoe Falls, but also because of better hotels and more attractions. As with all regularly updated Frommer's travel guides, it covers all the information necessary, both integral and interesting. These sections include:Restaurants with their average meal price;Information on the excessively high Niagara Falls (Canada side) restaurant tax, which many tourists don't realize until they feel the pinch on their wallets when they notice taxes usually add at least 15-20% to the subtotal, what to expect in a prime tourist area;Tips on money-saving attraction passes, including the widely advertised Adventure Pass;Maps which are easy to comprehend and are very useful;History about the region, including the wine region; andAs with all modern-day Frommer's Travel guides, they give you the best of what to do in the region for those who have short trips. I find the one-, two-, and three-day itinerary suggestions very useful, especially because it's a common feature in Frommer's.Of course all books have disadvantages. This book may not feature an abundant amount of photos, but I do not consider that a significant drawback.Frommer's main competitor, Fodor's has a guide covering Niagara Falls, but unlike Frommer's, Fodor's does not offer a guide covering solely Niagara Falls. Fodor's tries to make more money by consolidating the two cities in the "Toronto" guide. Fodor's is not aware not all tourists visit exclusively Niagara Falls. Of course there are tourists which exclusively visit Toronto, but I would not recommend Fodor's if you're visiting Canada just for Niagara Falls.Good luck and happy reading!

And this one is pretty good. It over-emphasized romance a bit, and concentrated on the Canada side of the Falls, but did mention New York state side. It was useful and helped a lot in planning what we wanted to see as a family and was worth the purchase. The only other guides out there are for much bigger regions and I think the Falls would just get short mention, so this is probably one of the better guides you can get.

I'm heading to a conference in Niagara Falls, NY later this month and bought this book to help me figure out how to spend my limited down time. This book is incredibly family/romance-centric. "You will want a picture of you and your family with the Falls behind you!" "I promise you'll have the most romantic cocktail of your life at this location." I appreciate books that point out family friendly attractions, but the tone is overkill here. That could be a minor annoyance if the information contained in the book was more helpful. I've found it difficult to locate some key information (e.g. how to cross the border by foot). I keep ending up consulting wikitravel or google in lieu of this book.

my husband and I used this on our long weekend trip to Niagra Falls. it is a perfect size to carry with you, although sometimes we needed a better map. descriptions are great and the tips are right on.

This book covers mostly Canadian side aspects, not much on the American side, but maybe all the good stuff is on the Canadian side,,, I will find out, going there next month,,, lots of good wine info, my wife likes that, getting most of my pretrip info from other websites.

Going to Niagara on the Lake. This book had a lot of useful info.
