The Home Bar by Henry Jeffreys is a free NetGalley ebook that I read in early January.As bright and fancy as the cover suggests, the chapters offer suggestions on how to adapt one’s bar to a certain look, what’s needed to equip and stock it, and some recipes. The bars each have their own subtle, classy mix of varnished wood, stainless steel, and glass - subtle and classy would also be a good way of describing Jeffreys’s narration, as he's very much in the know as he pulls from an elegant history of bars and speakeasys, and introduces the clear line of a bar, the smooth swoop of an archway, a liquor bottle, a banquette seat, or a pendant light. My favorite drink recipes include ‘More Than a Feeling,’ the Zombie, achiote margarita, bellini, and mulled cider.
