I enjoyed reading this book, in fact I read it in one sitting. Good break from the day to day events in our normal life in the civilized world where we struggle with few day to day survival skills or endure real hardships for the most part. I would recommend this to anyone.

Anne was an amazing woman, writer and environmentalist. It's so encouraging to read stories of others who came before me and realize there ARE others who had such a respect for nature. If you've not read any of Anne's books, I hope you love them as much as I did and it encourages you to explore more and plug in somewhere if you're not already doing that! Super read!

The author has written a very good book on what its' like to live alone in the wilderness. Fiercely independent, she is somewhat of a "hermit", disliking even the occasional stranger stopping by. She loves the wilderness and describes it with loving care. Very good read, but don't bother trying to visit her to thank her for the book.

I spent my childhood in Ticonderoga, Potsdam, and Port Henry which were all part of or adjacent to the Adirondack Park. Anne LaBastille's book brought me home to my childhood in a place of unbelievable beauty.She captured the wonders of the icy cold, clear mountain lakes and ponds. I could practically taste the crispy skins of fresh caught brookies sizzling in a cast iron frying pan.Some reviews have faulted Anne, wondering how she could have all those pictures, when she has pointed out how while her cabin was isolated she was part of a community of both permanent residents of the mountains and lakes, and of visitors.I am looking forward to reading the other books by Anne specifically because of her involvement with the ecology movement.The Adirondacks are a special place and need to be protected from the ravages of those who destroy their beauty with clear cutting, mountain topping and fracking.They haven't been really wild ever as they were home to Native Peoples before the coming of the of the colonialists.One thing that should be noted is Anne's mention of the railroads through the mountains as an alternative to building roads and filling the mountains with cars. In many cases the railroad right of way is already there.All in all reading this book takes me home, home to the mountains.

I am a first time reader of the Woodswoman series but I must admit that I was immediately hooked! I read the book front to back within several days and am anxious to continue with the others (please make ebooks). The authors descriptive imagery and passion for the untamed wildreness was so inspiring and contagious I wanted to pack up a sack and head out to see it for myself. The best part is she points you towards other Adirondack guides and literature as the book progresses so an interested reader can delve into more fantastic Adirondack history!

This is the story of a woman, who heads out into the woods to live off the land. The story is personal and very well written. She shares her joys and struggles and difficulties being a woman in the wilderness. I would hightly recommend this novel.

A nice little story of a woman building a little cabin in the Adirondacks after her divorce. It wasn't quite as radical for her as for some, she had been logging, resort operating, and lots of pretty strenuous outdoor living in the Adirondacks for a while. The story is interesting and the author isn't shy about sharing a least some of her personal life and conflicts- although I'd hardly call it indiscreet.The best parts are the simple moments. Bird watching with her dog, being caught in a storm, breaking up the ice for drinking water. The remoteness and isolation should probably be the strong suit for a book like this, but that was the part that missed for me. It's not that her place wouldn't be hard to get to without a boat or snowmobile,and it's probably as removed as one is likely to get in the U.S. east of the Mississippi- I guess I was just hoping for more. The area actually becomes a bit , of a resort in the summer and that takes away some of the magic. Plus she seems to head off to other places for pretty good chunks of time to work on her doctorate, and that kind of breaks the spell.Looked at another way, however, as the effort of a woman to remake her life by becoming independent without becoming bitter, and with the Adirondacks as the backdrop to a more universal story, the story like the author- finds its way. I had the author pegged as probably being either aqngry feminist or at best one of those hardened "one of the boys" backcounty women- but she's not really either. One reviewer described her as wilderness Barbie doll- but she still seemed pretty tough to me- it's just that she managed to stay a woman while doing things not many men, much less women, do. Again, strong as a personal story with the beauty of the Adirondacks giving it style. I enjoyed it a lot, but it still left me a little unsatisfied.

Good read. Amazing ability and stamina!! Her knowledge is admirable.I'm going to get her other books; very enjoyable.

Ugh, seriously, this book is awful. I struggled to read it but it's on a required reading list so pushed through. It starts to improve as you get nearer to the end, slightly, but overall I would give this book a pass and am questioning why I had to read it for a course.

I cannot review this book for myself as it was a gift. However, I know my daughter placed it as a high priority on her wish list, and was thrilled upon it's receipt.

This is a very well written book. I wanted to explore as many card games as possible. 150 is not too bad to get started.I like how the book is broken up into sections based on the number of players for each game. There is also an extra tips and tricks section. The structure is the same and you really get used to it. First, a succinct description of the game and all the rules. Then the author moves to a frozen-up game situation and tell the possible next moves. This helps with understanding the rules better.I am still exploring, going at my own pace since I am not in a big rush. So take what I said with a grain of salt. It's what I have seen so far. Also I have never owned any book of this kind (i.e., books classifying cards games) before. So I can't compare to any other out there.With all that said, this book is a winner for me.

This is the official game night weekend book in our house. We are avid card players. This is a great reference and there are several games to play both by player level and difficulty level. I will say though, sometimes it is difficul to figure out how to play a game based on linear directions alone. I do wish there were pictures or more examples in the book as some of the more complex games are difficult to understand by reading alone. This has made us shy away from a few games in the book because they are too complicated to understand. All that said, this book is our go-to for our weekend family game nights and we always find something to play and we have a few favorites we play weekly.

It is hard to understand the explanations of the games. It is a good resource to find out what kind of games are out there. But when it comes to actual games, I had to google and read or watch their explanations instead of the book. Even after I understood the methods through website, the way things are explained in this book is not easy to understand.

Good book, very clean format and illustrations, but as someone who doesn't know almost any card games and bought this book to learn them, it isn't too great. It uses a bunch of terminologies that if you're not familiar with card terminology you're gonna be spending time in the back of the book reading on what each term means, which is tedious.

Gave this to my dad for Christmas. He really liked it. There are lots of games in there and it's relatively straightforward to read. However, it was originally published in the UK, so some classic American games (such as Spades) were not included.

I can never remember the rules to card games. Bought this as a father's day gift for my dad for a fishing trip and we played a variety of the games, though mostly stuck to the ones the old guys like.Fun variations on single person games and the 'tricks' would likely be fun for much of the book's target demo. Not much of a card trick enthusiast at this stage, but 10 year old me would've loved them. Game variety is decent, though I was hoping for a few more that I wasn't familiar with.Organized with nice graphics and pretty decent game instructions. All and all, nice to have on the shelf when things get stale.

Love the illustrations that go with the written text. So many card games I have never heard of, should provide hours of fun in the RV.

Grandson was introduced to card games and now plays them more than video games. Plus he needs another player so granny, mom, and dad play with him. Family face to face time!!!! Wonderful!!!

I have a GPS in one of my cars, and a portable GPS too. The in-dash GPS in my BMW is great at giving roundabout ways of getting from Point A to Point B. On the other hand, a detailed street map, although more cumbersome to use, especially if multiple map pages are involved, will get you from Point A to Point B by the best possible route every time. Yes, it takes a bit more work. This is not to see a GPS is useless; it's invaluable if you deviate from the plotted route; the GPS will recalculate for you, a map won't. But the best feature of any detailed map is that it gives one perspective and a "feel" for where you are, and for where you are going. No GPS I'm aware of does that.The Hagstrom Hunterdon/Mercer/Somerset map books is one of the best out there, and is invaluable for those who drive for a living, such as realtors. Since the book was published several years ago, there will be additions not shown -- a pity, because maps are being replaced by GPS devices and as such, aren't updated as often as they should be. But even if you don't drive for a living, you'll eventually find this 3-county guide more than useful. It's clear, legible, and easy to follow. Especially if you use it in conjunction with your GPS, as you should.

Many people have chronic inflammation in their bodies and they are most often not even aware of it. The book nicely explains what you can do about it.All in all, this a great guide book on autoimmunity with a lot useful information on how to deal with it.

This book includes all the information you need to know about autoimmune disease. I love how Carmen explains exactly what autoimmune disease is, what the root causes are, and how to prevent it. The book is very nicely written and well organized.

Great book to the intro and understanding of autoimmune disease. Find a functional medicine doc who can help you navigate through all of this....just following a book won't be enough but this terrific book will point you in the right direction.

This book is nothing more than a compilation of information that the author likely found on Wikipedia. A Google search would have netted the same result. Glad I didn't pay for it but disappointed that I wasted my Prime rental for the month on it. There is no concrete science in this book, but merely a host of suggestions or recommendations with the warning "see your healthcare provider for specific instructions" after each one.

This book is an excellent beginning guide to complex conditions. It is very well-written book which informs but does not prescribe.
