And by doing these things they would rightly be considered to be vigilantes as they went against what would be considered to be proper in the eyes of the Norman rulers.What the author Ryan Becker and his assistant James Parker have done in this book, is to update the Robin Hood character, with today’s real life vigilantes, individuals who while on one hand would stop at nothing to go after the scourges which plague our society today, such as drug dealers, murderers, pedophiles, rapists and the like; but who, in attempting to deal with these sordid individuals wound up breaking the law themselves.While the fictional Robin Hood and his followers got pardoned by King Richard for trying to keep the Saxons safe from the Normans, each of the 8 modern-day Robin Hoods in this book have their exploits discussed, including their ultimate arrests and convicts. Readers are enlightened in the manner in which these modern vigilantes sought to take the law into their own hands, to right a perceived wrong, and then to have their bogus or own self-servicing reasons for what they did revealed.For wanting to give their readers an insightful, well-researched reading experience regarding these true crime stories, and how the media covers them, I’ve this book and its authors, 5 STARS.

As a Ryan Becker fan I may be a bit biased. I have Vigilantes and the Media 5 stars. It reminded me of some of his other work. Oddly enough with the subject material, there is a strange comfort I get from Ryan’s books. They are not overdone. Always an easy read, possibly too easy for some, but I do appreciate how well they flow. My only hang up would be birthdates and ages. Some chapters went into detail of the victims ages but the reader was never told how old the offender was at the time of the crime or when they were born. I think this is important for visual and story line. Not important enough to drop a star though.

I haven’t read a true crime novel on this subject before and looked forward to it. Unhappily, the book seemed to be written quickly and lacked proper editing. Also, the book was incredibly short, being only 61 pages on my Kindle. There were some interesting crimes I’d like to know more about, especially dates and the ages of all involved which were often lacking. The story of Bernard Goetz was perhaps the best written of the bunch and I recall the incident when it had happened. This story in particular carried the reader through with substantial info.

There were a few vigilantes somewhat compared to Dexter. That amused me because I loved that series. I very much enjoyed this book, as I do all of Ryan Becker’s books. Vigilante Justice is a weird thing. It’s understandable yet not. It’s interesting to learn why these vigilantes were drawn to the crime they committed.

Vigilante justice is like a double edged sword, it usually cuts both ways. It serves its purpose which is always a good thing, but then the vigilante has to endure the legal process and the "trial by media" that comes afterward. Is there sometimes a need for vigilante justice? This book will either cement your opinion or make you think about what is really going on and what is sometimes a better system than the courts.

I have read some about these killers before, but Ryan always manages to find facts on the cases that I'm not familiar with.As for the subjects of this book, we all need to remember that murder is a choice, a sickness, that isn't necessary in these situations. What would you do in their places? Would you hunt someone you feel had wronged you or society? Or would you become someone who tries to prevent these atrocities within the scope of Rhee's law? The choice is yours.Thanks Ryan for another great book!

As I read Ryan Becker's books I can't help but notice how they just keep getting better and better. His knowledge shines through in his writing and in his fax and he is about the fax he gives them right to you and he doesn't hold anything back and he doesn't try to make anything more or less than it is. I enjoy reading Ryan Becker and I plan to continue to read him as long as I find books by him.

This book was about people that decided to murder people they thought were the cause of problems in the world. They each had a focus, a type of person they thought deserved to die. All these people were initially hailed as heroes in the media for hurting evil people. Then we find out their motives weren't so clear. This book tells each story clearly and presents multiple ways of looking at their actions; were they good guys for killing horrible people or just killers bidding their motives. I enjoyed this book and learning about the many cases I had not heard of.

This book is more then just a simple source book on the many ways to kill a werewolf. What this book acknowledges as evidenced by the title Spirit Slayers, is that there are more things out there then just Werewolves who change shape. Spirits and Skin Changers are also covered. As the Hunter who starts hunting Forsaken Werewolves will encounter spirits as well and how they deal or try to deal with them.Following the same format as Witch Finders, Spirit Slayers is set up much the same way.Chapter One deals with a wide variety of story ideas, hooks and fitting werewolves and spirits into a historical perspective. Already it's more then just the simple answer of getting silver to kill a werewolf. As once spirits get involved, things can get rather nasty and a Hunter can be quickly out classed by a being who can step into the spirit world and back.Chapter Two takes a look at Hunters and how they might deal with werewolves and spirits from the existing compacts and conspiracies to introducing new compacts and a new Conspiracy.Here I have to take a moment and comment that to me, the most impress of the new compacts is the Bear Lodge, Hunters looking for the ultimate challenge. These Hunters would make an excellent antagonist(s) to use against a cocky or careless pack of werewolves.The Illuminated Brotherhood seemed too much like a bad joke with how they were presented.The Talbot Group is another compact that offers good ideas for chronicles and those Hunters who try to redeem a monster.The Les Mysteries is a good conspiracy with Voodoo Occult ties for dealing with Spirits. Though I can't help but see something of a farce happening. Though it could just be the use of the art throughout this chapter... too cartoonish.Chapter Three is the usual grab bag of new tactics, new merits (though I'd replace Kin with Wolf-Blood, Natural Medium and Null, I'd see if Book of Spirits has better merits to offer or supercede these). A new profession of the Outdoorsman and new Endowments.When it gets to Claws & Teeth, the section of the book that focuses on creating Werewolf antagonists, I, in all honesty would just stick to using Forsaken or Changing Breed rules. If you've got them, use those books unless you absolutely have no other books for Lycanthropes and Skin Changers.The section for Spirits is a poor treatment of only a few pages. If you've got either Forsaken or Book of Spirits, I'd use that book over this one and only use what's here if you have absolutely no other sources.Chapter Four deals with the themes of Hunters and Werewolves, being antagonists or sometimes even as allies. The last part of this chapter deals with Werewolves in the Philadelphia setting.The book is good, but there's just a feeling of needing too many other supplements to make a full proper use with Hunters. Otherwise what's provided is poor subrules that work only if you have nothing else.

As a plus, it would also be a good read for parents whose kids are seriously invested in hockey as it will help them to understand the reasons behind plays. Part three is an engaging demonstration of Ryan’s philosophy in action as he shares his experience applying his beliefs while coaching a 14U team.

The Author has a firm grasp and understanding of the use of metrics and statistical tendencies in their use of hockey play strategies and coaching; A great read and a must for all involved in hockey coaching, right on down to the casual hockey fan (like myself) that appreciates what goes on within the game.... Great book!!

Ryan has done a hell of a job in all of his tracking and reasearch. I trust his work tremendously after being extremely skeptical at the DC Hockey Analytics conference

This book was well written with excellent information on new techniques. Ryan has a great insight into such a demanding sport.

This is a fantastic book that redefines hockey strategy and theory. Should be in every coach’s hockey bag for years to come.

This is a critical read for anyone wanting to understand modern hockey tactics. Few other people combine quantitative analysis with on-ice strategy the way Ryan does. Highly recommended for coaches and analysts at any level.

While the book is organized and clearly presented, the methods within it has been shown to lead to failure by the hockey analytics community. Would not recommend.

After reading the reviews for this book, I felt that I had to add my own opinion to balance out what other people have said. My first thought is that people need to read the title; Figure It Out!: A Beginner's Guide to Drawing People. This is exactly what this book is, a beginner's book. While it does expect you to have some basic level of drawing skill, most of the drawings build the body from basic geometric shapes. This is the starting block for how most good beginner art books teach you to learn to draw anything. So it does pass that basic qualification. Next up and possibly what I like most about this book, is that it shows you shapes, and basic line forms that make up the parts of the body. I know growing up and going through my art classes, the one thing I struggled with was when the teacher said to "look". The problem with that approach is that until you know what you're looking for, you're a little in the dark. That is where this book excels. It gives you the basics of the human body construction and the contour lines that generally tend to be used to achieve those results.However, this is also where I get a little frustrated with some of the other reviews. All bodies are put together the same. However, there are quite a large variety of variations that happen with size, gender, race, muscle/fat ratios and cultural norms for how the human body is precisely put together for each of those things. Reviewers who are upset with this book for not having people of color, cultures or other ethnic races need to understand that those are all people who can be drawn with this book, but you will need to start with the information the writer gives you and then adapt it to fit each unique person. The author could easily write a whole book that would be titled, Figure It Out!: An Advanced Guide to Drawing People, which would cover a ton of differences that occur within all races, cultures, etc. However, those things would weigh down this book with too many choices and confuse the beginner.I'm sure you might wonder why I said this was a teacher's review. I'm an art teacher in an inner city school district where the kids can be easily frustrated at new things that they feel they have to do perfectly first time out. My students can't quite grasp the differences between professional, student learner and just plain quitting before you even begin. However, I've shown them multiple examples from this book concerning eyes, having them compare their own eyes to the generalized types, and they seemed to grasp the differences better. When they did attempt to draw their own eyes, they seemed to be a bit more confident in their attempts and didn't complain that they didn't know what they were doing. In short, they had a better grasp of what their lines should look like (differences included) because they knew to compare and contrast the line examples with the lines of their own eyes.So, should you buy this book? If you are a beginner or a more experienced person who would like to find some tips and tricks to draw bodies better or faster, yes. If you are a greatly experienced person with the human body, I'd say no. There are better, more in depth books out there, but then that's what you would be looking for anyway, not a beginner book. So I say this book for value and price is worth is and advertised and titled correctly.I hope this helps you with your body drawing book buying!

No one does it better than Christopher Hart. His two "Figure It Out" books (this one and the one on proportions) are the only books any beginner needs to be able to draw excellent, realistic figures.

So well written that I don't feel I need many more books on the subject of drawing, just practice. A good book to buy no matter your skill level. You will go back to it time and time again.

As an beginner illustrator I love his simple tutorials and advice. Very straight forward and easy to follow. I do wish that they'd combine this one with his other proportion book. I really needed both for doing different ages and different gender proportions.

This is a very good book if you want to learn skills or brush up your skills. I am using it to get back into my drawing & sketching. I would recommend it to others.

I ordered this book after seeing it in Michael's for twice the price, if not more. Though I am not a fan of the style in which the drawings/illustrations were done, I do really like all the examples given. If you're trying your hand at the human form, this book offers a very good variety for a beginner. I'm sure that more advanced artists would find very little use for this, but for your average person, this really offers some very good help.Personally, I can hold my weight in the ol' art department. I've a very good drawer, but I've always struggled with the human form a bit. This book helps me understand positioning in a way that makes things a little easier.

I bought this book for my talented 6 year old twin granddaughters. But I find it useful for me as well. This shows how versatile and useful this book is. I highly recommend it!
