My son loves books - not just any books but books with good graphics and a good and/or catchy story.... this has both. It rhymes (which is cool but I warn you it may take a few reads to get your tongue untwisted lol) and its funny - makes it fun to read to him.

This is a really sweet story of enemies finding an unlikely friendship. Very nice beat to the words. My 3.5 year old loves this story! Highly recommend.

This book is delightful. It has a good rhyme scheme and story. My son has enjoyed it every time we have read it, and so have I. No worries about getting sick of reading this book over the years.

This looks like a self-published cookbook by someone who may or may not even have a 3 quart IP. The recipes are vague and, frankly, odd. I made "Sweet Potato Beef," which called for 1lb of stew beef and FOUR CUPS of beef stock (which, after I added the veggies, took my pot to the FULL line). The sweet potatoes (diced, as called for) turned to mush, the bell peppers were limp, and I ended up with beef soupish. As in see-through broth. The recipe didn't even call for seasoning the beef (which I did). I am a newbie IP user. I may return to this cookbook when I have more experience with my IP, but until then, I will stick to recipes either endorsed by IP or written by them. New IP users should be very aware that these are just random recipes compiled by a well-meaning person.

I’m looking forward to healthy meals with leftovers from my Instant Pot Mini Cookbook. the recipes in the book are either the everyday meals you serve or act as a template for what you want to cook. This book is very well written by the author and i highly recommend this book to all of you guys. Thanks .

The publisher really let down the author. There are no pictures, which is very disappointing especially since I bought it for a beginner. Also, recipes run over from one page to the next - not a user-friendly format. The worst is that the title of each dish is in light grey in the same size font as the recipes. The nutritional content gets boldface but not the title of the dish? It's so difficult to just page through and find a recipe. Bummer. My copy is going back.

I like cooking with my Instant Pot Mini and I bought this cookbook to get more new Instant Pot recipes. This book includes 300+ everyday tasty and healthy recipes for beginners and advanced users. There I found breakfast recipes, beans and grains, vegetables and sides, fish and seafood recipes, meatless mains, poultry recipes, snacks and appetizers, desserts. All these recipes are very detailed , easy to follow and helpful. Every recipe in this book can be easily made at home in the Instant Pot. Now I can cook healthy and well balanced dishes for all my family every day. This cookbook is perfect for someone like me who love to eat a healthy homemade food without having to spend so many hours in the kitchen. I would recommend this book for every Instant Pot Mini owner.

At first glance, I was disappointed. There are recipes that have nothing to do with the instant pot. Ex. A bunch of smoothies. Also no index so you have to sort through 40+ recipes to hopefully find what you are looking for. Also there are misplaced things like Sweet Spiced Ribs in chapter 4 titled Vegetables and Sides. The positive - lots of recipes. Will try some recipes and update later.

This book is very poorly written. Grammatical errors abound. One recipe is called "Wine Marinates Shrimps." Many recipes start with the following steps: Take your instant pot. Open the lid. Turn it on. Really? Actually there is no "On" switch. It turns on when you press a cooking mode, and some recipes don't even tell you the cooking mode to choose.As far as the recipes themselves, I haven't come across one that appeals to me yet, but I'll keep looking, since it's too late to return the book (I bought it for a Christmas present two months ago).NOTE: There are many 5 star reviews, but if you look closely, it looks like most of them are written in the same poor grammar as the book. At least one is fake - it says the pictures are great, but the book has no pictures in it! So if one is fake, who knows how many others are.

I enjoy cookbooks that I can read & understand the recipes easily.....lots of times you can only get books that appeal to the larger items and forget that their are people out there that cook for only one or two people....thank you for this book.

This book was told from a child's perspective and is very well written. Blunt and straight to the truth, I am a voracious reader and finished this in two days. The book was full of information that was new to me, and anyone who is interested in the Holocaust would not be disappointed in any way in reading this. I was saddened, horrified, and encouraged by this book. This book is also one of the few that I've read that includes pictures.

This book is very thoughtfully written. It reveals some of the horrors experienced by the author and her mother in a respectful way. I have read many survivor stories and this book was truthful without being terribly difficult to read because of the detailed horrors of other books. Marion truly has lived a wonderful life, replete with struggles, but full of hope.

A short story and an easy read. Not near as graphic as some of the Holocaust books I've read. It is amazing though to read the strength that people have in desperate life-threatening situations.

For many years now, I have had an indescribable draw to the Holocaust, particularly to reading survivors' stories. It will be a reoccurring theme you see in my reviews. I love to read survivor stories in all forms, which is why I am choosing to review a Young Adult book.The story is about the Blumenthal family, and the six and a half years they struggled during the Holocaust, as well as their struggle for a normal post war life. We learn about the early events of the Holocaust, such as Kristallnacht, in a very personal, emotional way, easy for a child to understand, but with enough impact to affect an adult as well. We learn about the family's attempts to flee Germany, and various plans they made, only to be thwarted by the advancement of the German Army's invasions. We learn of the motivation to stay alive while the family was imprisoned in the concentration camps, the promise of liberation, and the disappointments that met after liberation occurred.When dealing with a topic as sensitive in nature as the Holocaust, writing for young adults can be difficult. The author does not want to gloss over the details, or insult the intelligence of the young reader, but also a line must be drawn to make sure the content is not for purely sensational or shock value. I think this book was extremely well written for its intended audience, but also still had impact on me as an adult. I have read many books on Holocaust survivors, but this one definitely stood out to me. I would like to see more books on this topic, written in this manner, for this audience. I know I would have devoured them if they had been available when I was younger.One of the most beautiful things about this book is the metaphor from which the title is derived. While in Bergen-Belsen, Marion convinces herself that if she can find four perfect pebbles, identical in nature, it means that her family will survive their ordeal. This symbol is one of the only things from which she can draw strength, and the impression is indelible.While preparing to write this blog, I discovered that Marion Blumenthal Lazan has a website, focusing on this book. I strongly encourage all readers of this blog, particularly parents and/or educators who are interested in using this book to impart knowledge to their children or students to visit her website, Four Perfect Pebbles. There is a wealth of additional information there, on lessons our children desperately need to learn.

I purchased 25 copies of this book for my 8th Grade English classroom because the reading level is around 6th grade, but the subject matter is more intense than that. I feel this makes it a perfect Holocaust Memoir for an 8th grade classroom where many students are reading a little below grade level, but do have the emotional maturity to read this book. This is not required reading in my classroom, but it is very popular for our Informational Reading Unit which focuses on The Holocaust.

Always find it interesting to learn of the holocaust and hear personal stories. Find it heartbreaking and courageous of how people survive the horrors. Send prayers to all who passed and survived.

An average book on a horrifying topic. Wasn't as in depth and explicit as others if life in the camp details are what you are after.

A very personal family history of one of the millions of people who the Nazi tried to kill during world war II. These stories should be recommended reading in all schools. To believe that this could not happen again is to have to much faith in humans. It happens in the name of religion today. We should all teach this to our children.

I was 16 when it happened, and remember reading a book about the tragedy several years later. That decades-old book didn't compare to the detail, depth, and insight of The Road to Jonestown.I won't go into the details of the story, as there are other synopses here.The lesson then, and it certainly applies today: when you listen only to one point of view, and surround yourself only with people who agree with you, you lose the ability to think for yourself. And the echo chamber becomes a trap. Whether it's religion, or politics, it's never a good idea.

This is truely a fascinating true horror story. The book is excellent in research and at the end is a list of interviews and extensive notes. I think two quotes accurately cover this tragedy "the death quickly became renowned not as a grandly defiant revolutionary gesture, but as the ultimate example of human gullibility.(p. 454)" and "Those as gifted as Jones use actual rather than imagined injustices as their initial lure- the racism and economic disparity in America that Jones cited were, and still are, real - then exaggerate the threat until followers lose any sense of perspective (p. 466)." This book also made me research many of the politicians, lawyers, and famous people who used this cult to further their own careers and nasty agendas. This non-fiction horror story is a warning tale about many of the movements and politicians today - that parallel the evil in this mass murder. This book deserves an A++++++++

I remember the headlines in 1978 about over 900 dead in Guyana , members of the Peoples Temple led by Jim Jones. I saw this book as an opportunity to learn more about this case and why and how it happened. Author Jeff Guinn has written a very detailed and interesting book and character study of Jim Jones and the Peoples Temple. As a child of disfunctional parents with a Mother who predicted great things for him, Jim Jones was an odd child that was obsessed with Religion and had a penchant for memorizing scripture as well as attending multiple religious services. From his start in Indiana to California, Brazil and eventually Guyana you are told of the growth of the church, how members were recruited, the people who were served by the church and how an organization that started with good intent, promising and promoting racial and social equality eventually crashed and burned in a mass suicide ordered by their Pastor Jim Jones. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Jones was an adulterer, controller and drug abuser who took advantage of vulnerable men, women and children, eventually killing them. This book is a cautionary tale for cults. This should be required reading for anyone considering joining an organization led by someone who demands absolute fealty and control and promises an ideal existence, it usually doesn't deliver and ends badly. Highly interesting and recommended.

I loved Guinn's books about Manson and Bonnie & Clyde, and the thorough research and vivid storytelling were as excellent as I expected.Finishing the book left me with more questions and I think this is intentional. I guess Guinn resisted tying it up this long, complicated story in a bow or diagnosing the dead. There have been many famous preachers over the years who enriched themselves, defrauded people, lied, slept with parishioners and so on. I have been watching Leah Remini's show about Scientology, and there are some parallels with that as well. But why did Jim Jones go beyond the basic narcissistic, greedy preacher and cause the deaths of almost a thousand people? He could have been a mega-church preacher with thousands of adoring fans, political influence and millions of dollars in his pocket without engaging in criminal and then deadly activity.If you are really interested in the culture of the times, you will enjoy this book and perhaps Manson even more.

The Rev Jim Jones is one of the most notorious criminals in American history. Jones was born in rural Indiana in 1931 to a World War I veteran of world War I and an eccentric and profane mouthed mother. She believed in reincarnation and envisaged great things for her unusual and charismatic son. Jones had charisma and was a great speaker and motivator. He graduated from Butler University and became the leader of the move to integrate public facilities in his hometown of Indianapolis in the 1850s. Jones became the chair of the Indianapolis Housing Commission doing a fine job. His congregation from store front to large. Jones was an evangelist who traveled widely in the Midwest for revivals. He was married to Marcelline who came from a prominently Republican family in Richmond. Indiana. The couple wed and had several children most of whom were adopted. Jones relocated the Peoples Temple to California in the early 1960s. The church prospered and Jones became a local celebrity in San Francisco. The public face of Jones portrays a dedicated minister who worked for social justice for the poor and minorities. But underneath was an evil egocentric monster! Consider:a. Jones proclaimed that he was God on earth and demanded worship from his besotted followers.b. Jones did not believe in the Biblec. Jones believed the CIA and FBI were persecuting his church and that the end of the world was coming near.d. Jones was a sex offender fathering at least one child out of wedlock. He demanded sex from his women followers and committed statutory rape.e. Jones was power mad .f. Jones often faked healings to fool the unwary often using chicken offal to think they were cancers he had exorcised from those suffering from the disease of the day. All of this evil is brought to the cold light of day by the deft pen of Jeff Guinn. He is a Texan who has written several bestselling books on the likes of Bonnie and Clyde, Charles Manson and the participants in the Gunfight at the OK Corral. I have read all of these books and all have been well written based on a great deal of oral interviews and research. Jim Jones is one of the most complicated murderers I have ever read a book about! He did much good in his life but talking his 914 followers to commit mass suicide in the jungles of Guyana on November18, 1978 is unforgivable. He himself killed himself that day by a gunshot. His followers also murdered Congressman Leo Ryan D-California who was killed at the airport near Jonestown. Ryan had arrived there to research the bad reports he had been hearing about Jones and his followers. This book is a well done true crime story that deserves a wide readership. Recommended!

About the Author

Karen Golden-Biddle is Professor of Organizational Behavior and Everett W. Lord Distinguished Faculty Scholar at Boston University School of Management. She currently serves as Senior Associate Dean, with responsibility for faculty, research and curricular innovation at the undergraduate and graduate levels. In her research, Karen studies organizational and system change, and has published more than 50 articles and two books: Composing Qualitative Research (Golden-Biddle and Locke, 2007) and Using a Positive Lens to Explore Social Change and Organizations (Golden-Biddle and Dutton, 2012). Her most recent article (2013), "How to change your organization without blowing it up," is published in Sloan Management Review. Karen is the recipient of a number of teaching awards and was the 2003 recipient of the Robert McDonald Award for the Advancement of Research Methodology from the Academy of Management. She received her BA degree from Denison University and MBA and PhD degrees from Case Western Reserve University. Karen studies organizational and system transformation, and is especially interested in highly professionalized settings such as healthcare and universities with socially significant missions.

I didn't realize I purchased the first edition for my qualititative methods course until the in-class discussion of the first reading assignment. It was clear the 1st edition was lacking. I had to go and buy the 2nd edition because there was so much excellent material added in the 2nd edition and I couldn't get by without it. I would DEFINITELY recommend the 2nd edition.
