This was a very scary novel, it kept me up at night because I wanted to see what new horror was around the corner. It is well worth finding out. I love that this story is the first book in the World’s Scariest Legends series, I can’t wait till the other novels are out. I enjoy that it’s based on “real†legends around the world. This story keeps building and building adding characters and backstories of these characters and the horror that has happened in the past and the horror that comes back to present day. I really enjoy this author’s novels, pick any of his novels up and you will not be disappointed.
Really good beginning. Excellent characters and you can feel the scenery. Then the book seems to hit a wall about halfway through. It just stalls out. Then gets going again but by then you don't care. The ending sucked. I felt that all the stalling and boredom around middle could have been used to set up a better ending but it was downright depressing.
This was a quick read with an exciting storyline and I really liked it!
Love a good horror story that you can’t put down? I urge you to read Mosquito Man by Jeremy Bates. The book starts out slowly, building up the characters so that you feel you know them. Then, the family is plunged into a nightmare of a horror so gripping that you will be unable to look away from the page. Action and suspense follow the leisurely introduction and you will find yourself in the same room with the family, heart pounding, breathing fast, adrenaline rushing. I found that my heart rate jumped 20 points per minute while I was reading (thanks to my Fitbit!)! The characters find themselves on the brink of insanity over and over, yet they persevere and live to fight another hour. Very well written, reminiscent of Dean Koontz’s Intensity.
I had the fortunate opportunity to receive this book for free, in exchange for my honest opinion. First off let me just say all of Jeremy's books are excellent and worth reading. This one is no exception. This family is spending a weekend at a cabin and things go from bad to worse. I especially like how the story also included the children's point of view as well as the adults. Just brilliant. If you're a fan of horror with some science fiction, you will enjoy this book.
This book was scary. And cool. Like most adults though, I didn’t enjoy or think it was necessary to have little kids arguing throughout the book. It was distracting and irritating. I would limit needless dialogue in the future.
Man, I really like this author but I wasn't a huge fan of this novella. The ending was very disappointing to me and too open-ended for my taste. That said, Mr. Bates is a fantastic author and this book is as well-written as any of his others. I am aware that reading taste is subjective, which is why I gave this 4 stars--it's still very good so don't let me put you off it, by any means.
Jeremy Bates never fails to let me down and Mosquito Man was no exception! I love all of his books, but particularly the stories spun from urban legends and true stories. I always read them quickly...because I can’t put them down!! Can’t wait to see what comes next!
